Multi Loading
Combine overlapping passenger routes to maximize vehicle space and revenue per mile
With Multi Loading,
The Dispatcher can
combine passengers on shared routes
so they can
maximize vehicle utilization
— resulting in higher revenue per mile.
The Problem
The Core Problem
Single-rider trips waste vehicle capacity when overlapping routes exist. Manual identification of multi-load opportunities is impractical at scale.
The Scenario
A provider runs 200 daily trips with an average vehicle utilization of 1.2 passengers per run. Many trips share overlapping geography — 4 dialysis patients within a 3-mile radius all need pickup between 5:30 and 6:00 AM for the same clinic.
Why It's Urgent
Every single-rider trip that could be multi-loaded represents lost revenue. At $18 per trip, combining 4 passengers onto one vehicle run generates $72 in revenue versus $18 for a single rider — using the same driver hours and fuel.
Without MediRoutes
Train dispatchers to look for multi-load opportunities manually. Experienced dispatchers can spot some, but the combinatorial complexity of 200 trips across 30 vehicles exceeds what any human can optimize.
With MediRoutes
AutoSchedule automatically identifies multi-load opportunities by analyzing pickup locations, destinations, appointment times, and vehicle capacity. Dispatchers see proposed multi-loads and approve with one click.
Who This Helps
The Dispatcher
Builds daily routes and tries to group passengers manually. Cannot evaluate all possible combinations across 200 trips.
The Fleet Owner
Needs to increase revenue per vehicle hour without adding fleet. Multi-loading is the highest-leverage profitability tool.

Common Questions
AutoSchedule calculates the time impact of each additional stop. Multi-loads are only proposed when all passengers can still arrive within their appointment windows. Time-sensitive trips are excluded from grouping.
Multi-loading respects vehicle capacity by mobility type. A wheelchair van with space for 2 wheelchairs and 3 ambulatory passengers can combine both types on one run as long as capacity is not exceeded.
Yes. Trip records show the multi-load group ID, the order of stops, and individual billing data per passenger. Each passenger generates their own claim regardless of multi-loading.
The remaining passengers keep their schedule. The route adjusts automatically to skip the canceled stop. If the cancellation opens up time, the system may suggest adding another nearby trip to the route.
